Hey girl

Hi! You're still here!:)

I am going straight into this next post because I feel if I don't spit these words out, I'm going to explode...You wouldn't want that, now, would you??  Also, I guess I'll preface the post by saying: this isn't going to be anything too profound, or technical (so, again...can we make this a judgement-free zone, please??).  It does, however, express some sentiments that come from a very personal place for me.  I can get into all of that later...Right now, I just want these words to speak for themselves.
Alright (*deep breath*), here it is:
_________________

Hey girl.
I've been where you are.

I see it in your eyes.
Sad, droopy moons
they tell a story.
I see it in your shoulders.
Sagging and heavy
they hardly carry your pain.
I hear it in your voice.
Unsteady and wavering.

I see it, girl.
Written all over your face...

But, come, girl.
Listen.
Listen to me now.

Don't believe the lies that shout
you are alone--
that you are less than
anyone else in this world.

Don't let yourself believe
--for one second--
that you lack the strength
to rise up
from the heaviness of the ground
from the darkest, most isolated places in your mind.

Listen.
Listen to me, girl...

You belong
wherever you are.
Don't let them tell you differently!
These are your blank pages to fill.
Do not be convinced that your story is any less
beautiful on its own.
As it is.

Listen.
You are enough.
Striving to be anything else will leave you feeling
empty, unfulfilled, and unsatisfied...
Your thirst for approval unquenched.

Listen to me!

Have courage.
Listen to me!
Grab hold of that fresh, undeveloped lump of clay
And develop it!
Mold it, bend it, flatten it, roll it,
paint it whatever color you like.
Make it what you want.
Listen,
It will never be yours
if you model it after someone else's work.
It will never be theirs either.

Girl.
Listen to me now!

You are loved.
If not by yourself,
by so many others.
Do not think for a second
 this isn't true.
How convincing those lies can be...

Listen, girl!
Let it in.
Listen, girl!
Accept it.
Embrace it, girl! Internalize it!
Until you start to believe it.

Girl...
I've been where you are.

I dare you.
Stop.
I dare you.
Breathe.
Look up.
Push those shoulders back.
Look her in the eye.
I dare you.
Love...
yourself.
I dare you.

I want to hear you
whisper fiercely,
Girl.
I've been where you are.

  1. <3 You are SO loved Elise. By myself and so many others whose lives you have touched. Know I am always here and would love to talk. Whatever is going on I would be honored to help you get through it, just like you have done for me when I was having tough times and similar thoughts. Remember, we’re great at solving the world’s problems (although we seem to be best at it around 2 or 3 am :-) ). You’ll get through this, “one step at a time.”
